Alaska – The Great Exploration – Volunteer Vacations | Discover Corps
The famed Kenai Peninsula is home to the most impressive natural beauty that can be found in Alaska. Snow-capped mountains meet calm, glacier-fed bays while birds, whales and the occasional bear dot the surrounding landscape.
This is a journey of epic proportions across Southern Alaska. In Anchorage, enjoy a picnic lunch and venture into the snow-capped mountains of Chugach State Park aboard the iconic Glacier Discovery Train (often ranked as one of the top ten train rides in North America). Continue to Seward where we’ll boat through the remarkable Kenai Fjords National Park, and keep an eye out for whales, porpoises, puffins, sea otters, bald eagles, and more along the way! Experience a dog sled ride to the base of Resurrection Mountain along Box Canyon Creek. Explore quaint downtown Seward or opt for one of the many optional adventure activities including ziplining, kayaking, glacier hiking or open water fishing!
Begin the journey in Alaska’s capital, Anchorage where we’ll visit Chugach State park on the iconic Glacier Discovery Train and meet with a member of Alaska Trails to learn about conservation. Continue to picturesque Seward, the adventure capital of Alaska. Board a boat for a day of glacier viewing along the Kenai Fjords National Park. Then visit the Alaska Sealife Center for a puffin encounter before a dog sled ride through the wilderness. Enjoy a day exploring Seward’s quaint downtown or opt for one of the four optional adventure activities including ziplining, kayaking, glacier hiking or fishing (costs/details noted below). Continue on to the famed Tunragain Arm where we’ll take an aerial tram to view glaciers, rainforest and the occasional black bear. Visit a wildlife conservation center and return to Anchorage for our flights home.
